Other Tales of the Mountain
Outros Contos da Montanha is a book composed by 36 short stories, dealing with the rural life in North East Portugal (Trás-os-Montes). As a whole, the stories represent the different aspects of the cultural and social life of the community since past times, passing through the harsh period of the Portuguese Dictatorship (1928-1974) till the first decennium of the new century.

The book intends to show the Mountain through short stories inspired by folk tales. Due to rural exodus of most inhabitants of Trás-os-Montes, those tales show culture, traditions and customs that only reside in the memory of few people, most of them living in other regions in Portugal or in other countries and continents.

Other Tales of the Mountain aims to raise awareness among young natives of these lands and all those who love Trás-os-Montes that evolution also lies in the preservation of their identity. Paraphrasing Torga, we urge that Trás-os-Montes should be repopulated in a harmonious balance between the mineral, animal and plant life.
